Define passionate love and companionate love. Explain how these two concepts are related.
What will be an ideal response?
Passionate love is a state of intense longing for union with the other person and of intense physiological arousal. By contrast, companionate love is a feeling of deep attachment and commitment to a person with whom one has an intimate relationship. Passionate love is often the first stage of a romantic relationship, but as the relationship progresses, a gradual shift to companionate love takes place. Thus, passionate love in time develops into companionate love.
