Explain how temperature can impact enzyme activity
What will be an ideal response?
Temperature affects kinetic energy as well as the three-dimensional structure of an enzyme. Above the
optimal temperature, a protein begins to denature and loses function. Below the optimal temperature,
the kinetic energy keeps molecules from colliding with each other as rapidly, reducing the rate of the
reaction.
