Your team is approaching a very important decision. What is groupthink and what steps should be considered to prevent groupthink?
What will be an ideal response?
Groupthink may mean that rather than making the best decision, members of a group define the goals of problem-solving as doing what is necessary to preserve relations among the group members and maintaining the group's image. Obviously, the quality of decisions is threatened under these circumstances. A manager might try to reduce the chances of groupthink by formulating the problem clearly, by constantly asking the group to reconsider its goals and assumptions, by praising people who express a point of view that runs contrary to the norm, and perhaps by assigning a person (changing this each time) the role of acting as devil's advocate for the group.
