Give an example of how a child's natural environment can impact his or her behaviors and/or development of specific skills.

What will be an ideal response?

A child's natural environment has tremendous influence on his or her ability to develop certain skills and/or behavior in certain ways. Student examples will vary, but a child who grows up in a friendly neighborhood where "block parties" are regularly held with neighbors to celebrate holidays, season changes, and so on may learn appropriate and effective social skills with others. He or she may learn early on how to interact in appropriate and friendly ways with other children and adults. At a Christmas “block party,” a child may learn the importance of giving and receiving gifts. In that process, they learn how to greet others, hold appropriate turn-taking conversations, and learn how to say “thank-you” for gifts they receive. They may also learn (through observation) how to handle themselves in large groups of people such as talking quietly with others, meal etiquette, and so on.
