Contrast homologous and analogous traits, giving examples

What will be an ideal response?

In both cases you are looking at situations where organisms have similar traits. The difference lies in whether or not the similarity results from common descent (homologous) or from common adaptive pressure (analogous). If the trait is homologous, two organisms will share it with their last common ancestor. If it is analogous, they will have evolved it independently after each group split from their last common ancestor. Students can use examples from the text or from other sources.
