ZFNs and TALENs have high specificity for their target cleavage site. How is this specificity achieved?
What will be an ideal response?
Both ZFNs and TALENs require dimerization to work. This means that each monomer must recognize and bind its target sequence and be close enough for dimerization to occur. ZFNs have a spacing of 5-7 nucleotides, whereas TALENs have a spacing of about 13 base pairs.
