Discuss why children, and girls in particular, are specifically vulnerable to human trafficking. What social and cultural factors contribute to the likelihood that they will be victims of human trafficking? Provide specific examples from your text to develop and support your points.

What will be an ideal response?

Children have less social power and no official voice in society except for that which is spoken on their behalf. Social conditions such as those described in the text like living on less than $2 a day, gender inequality, cultural norms regarding virginity and its value, child marriage norms, etc. may contribute to the likelihood that a child will be trafficked. Parents often sell children as commodities out of desperation due to extreme poverty, debt, and girls in particular because of gender biases. Girls are also sold as brides, sex slaves, and virgin prizes. In summary, poverty amongst marginalized communities is the leading cause of trafficking in general and for children and girls in particular. Girls are most likely to experience sex trafficking and child marriage.
