Discuss the conditions that limit the distribution of corals worldwide

What will be an ideal response?

Corals are found in areas worldwide where the annual minimum water temperature is generally above 20°C. In addition, corals generally need high light levels, low sediment levels, and a hard substrate for larval corals to settle and attach themselves to. In contrast, coastlines subjected to upwelling and/or extensive freshwater and sediment input from rivers generally do not support extensive coral reefs.
