Describe Lewin's force-field theory. What causes an organization to stagnate? What needs to happen for an organization to change?

What will be an ideal response?

According to Lewin's force-field theory, a wide variety of forces arise from the way an organization operates-from its structure, culture, and control systems-that make organizations resistant to change. At the same time, a wide variety of forces arise from changing tasks and general environments that push organizations toward change. These two sets of forces are always in opposition in an organization. When the forces are evenly balanced, the organization is in a state of inertia and does not change. To get an organization to change, managers must find a way to increase the forces for change, reduce resistance to change, or do both simultaneously. Any of these strategies will overcome inertia and cause an organization to change.
