Investigator refers case to the DA's office for possible prosecution, case is reviewed by the DA, charges are either declined or filed, if filed there is an initial appearance in court (arraignment in misdemeanors), bail and conditions of bail are set, next hearing is scheduled, a preliminary hearing occurs for felony cases (arraignment), pretrial/final conference, motion hearings when necessary, finding of guilt by plea or trial and sentencing.
