Answer: According to the dual systems model, the reward network matures in early adolescence, and leads individuals to seek novelty, reward, and intense stimulation. A second system, the executive control network, allows adolescents to think about the consequences of their actions and to control their impulses. But the second system does not mature until late adolescence.
