Answer: Nutrient-dense foods are foods that provide a high level of healthful nutrients for a low number of calories. An example is peanut butter with whole grain bread. Foods with empty calories are those that provide few or no nutrients from the calories and generally come from solid fats and/or added sugars. Examples of these are cookies, cakes, doughnuts, alcohol, hot dogs, soft drinks, and bacon.
