Public speaking uses more informal language than written communication; you use
shorter words and personal pronouns. Second, public speaking cannot rely upon
bibliographies or reference pages to provide bibliographic information on the sources.
Public speakers must state the source in the text of the speech. Third, because the
audience for a speech is listening, not reading, the speaker must be very clear, and use
repetition. Information that is important, such as the main points, should be repeated
several times to help the audience understand and remember. It is also important to use
oral organizational cues that help the audience follow along.
