What precautions should you take when jump starting a vehicle?

What will be an ideal response?

1. Wear eye protection.
2. Do not try to jump-start a vehicle in freezing weather. Jump-starting a frozen battery can cause it to explode.
3. Serious damage to a car's electrical system can result if the cables are connected backward, with the wrong polarity.
4. When possible, computer-controlled vehicles should have a dead battery removed and charged, rather than jump-starting.
5. If a computer-equipped car is to be jump-started, it is mandatory that both cars have their ignitions in the "off" position when the jumper cables are connected.
6. Check to see that the battery has electrolyte above its plates. If not, do not attempt to jump-start the car.
7. The two vehicles should not be touching each other. This could provide an unwanted ground path.
