Briefly define the three dominating schools of philosophy within the Chinese world—Daoism, Confucianism, and Buddhism

What will be an ideal response?

Daoism, Confucianism, and Buddhism.
• Daoism – stresses self-cultivation and severing one's ties to an imperfect world; later cross-fertilized with numerous folk religions, including spirit and ancestor worship
• Confucianism – a fixed social hierarchy where loyalty flowed upwards from common individuals to ruler and to heaven, and social responsibility flowed downwards; human nature is basically good, but easily corrupted by bad leadership.
• Buddhism – man is inherently imperfect, but can improve through religious practice and multiple incarnations toward a purified future.
