Imagine you were driving westward on a road in a wooded area. If ferns were growing in the area, which side of the road would they most likely be growing, and why wouldn't they be growing as well on the other side?

What will be an ideal response?

If the road runs east to west, the north side of the road would probably get more sunlight than the more shaded south side. Ferns need a moist environment, and the north side would be drier than the south side. Therefore, the south side (the left side when driving westward) would be more likely than the north side to have ferns growing along it.
