What has been learned about (a) recidivism and (b) treatment of the criminal psychopath?
What will be an ideal response?
Criminal psychopaths have a high recidivism rate. They commit crimes repeatedly, regardless of the methods used to stop or rehabilitate them. Research suggests that psychopaths reoffend faster, violate parole sooner, and perhaps commit more institutional violence than nonpsychopaths. Many studies indicate that adult psychopaths and juveniles with psychopathic characteristics have not responded well to treatment. There is some evidence that large doses of treatment may be effective in reducing subsequent violent behavior. Evaluation of treatment programs is difficult due to the ability of psychopaths to manipulate others and the system as a whole. Research on the MJTC is promising for treating adolescents with psychopathic features, however.
