What should teachers do if students write something inappropriate in their journals?

What will be an ideal response?

Rather than talking about right and wrong or good and bad, focus instead on "public" and "private." Journals can be private unless they are shared. When they are going to share, students must be sensitive to their audience. When a child shares writing that includes violent, sexual, or abusive language, teachers need to ask him or her to stop, and in the future preview what the child wishes to share.
