Symptoms of post partum depression include the following: feelings of sadness, doubt, guilt, hopelessness, or anger that get worse with each passing week and cause disruptions in one's daily life; inability to sleep even when tired; sleeping most of the time even when the baby is awake; constant worry and anxiety about the baby; lack of interest in or feelings for the baby and family; panic attacks; thoughts of harm to the baby or to self; changes in appetite including reduced appetite or overeating.
Several methods of coping are available for new mothers. Support groups, therapy, and medications are some of the approaches that may lessen the symptoms.
