How are X-rays produced?

X-rays are produced in a vacuum tube that contains an anode
(positively charged) and a cathode (a source of electrons) connected to a
high-voltage source. When the power supply is switched on, it heats the
cathode, causing the production of electrons. Attracted by the strong
positive charge, the negatively charged electrons bombard the anode,
which produces X-rays. The X-rays are directed onto a target, such as the
human body.
