Why is the polygraph more controversial than drug screening?
What will be an ideal response?
Although both forms of post-interview testing have their controversial aspects, the
polygraph continues to be much more controversial because it is far less reliable.
Different forms of drug screen have different levels of effectiveness--some are good
only for the two days prior to the testing, some much longer--but all have much higher levels of validity than a polygraph. While all companies are allowed to legally drug screen, the government has prohibited the use of the polygraph as an employment screen for all positions except for those in government and a few other specific situations. Even with recent improvements in the polygraph, critics still contend that its accuracy is little better than 70 percent.
