What does "listening for feelings" mean? What communication tool is used to demonstrate you are listening for feelings?
What will be an ideal response?
While listening for content is vitally important, listening for feelings provides the opportunity to demonstrate your concern for the underlying feelings and emotions the individual is attempting to convey about the situation. As the sender conveys facts and data, her deeper concerns are how she feels about the facts and data and the emotions they are creating. Where you have paraphrased to show content understanding, you will want to go a little deeper at this level and give empathic responses. One way to do this is to make statements that reflect an understanding of both the content of the other person's message and her feelings about the content, such as "You are feeling [emotion] about [content].".
