Why are banks such as target or so vulnerable to robbery?
What will be an ideal response?
First, and perhaps the most obvious, is that banks are lucrative targets because they have money;
on average a bank robber nets $4,000. Second, there has been an increase in the number of
banking branches and extended banking hours since the 1970s. This increase in banks along with
extended hours provides more opportunities for offenders. Last, bank robberies may actually be
considered to be low-risk forms of robberies. Generally banks have the same layout allowing for
easy entry and exit, and staff is not armed and is trained to comply with the demand(s) of the
robber(s) and not resist.
