Suppose you are on an advisory committee whose purpose it is to ensure that experiments involving young children are conducted in an ethical manner
Give an example of an
experiment that you would consider ethical, one you would consider unethical, and one that
would be difficult to evaluate. Defend your reasons in each case.
What will be an ideal response
Answers will vary, but ethical experiments are ones that will ensure that the subjects
will not be harmed by the research process and participation is voluntary and
confidential. Unethical experiments would involve violation of any of these
conditions. One that would be difficult to evaluate would be a study in which there is
some potential for harm but also one where there are potential benefits as well (e.g.,
effects of particular medicines or therapies).
