Discuss the role of serotonin in aggression, providing experimental evidence for support.

What will be an ideal response?

Serotonin decreases aggression. Animals with low levels of serotonin have a tendency to be risk takers, picking fights with larger or more aggressive animals. In studies, monkeys with low serotonin levels were more likely to die from poor decisions. Reduced levels of serotonin are correlated with higher levels of aggression and violent crime among humans. Serotonin agonists have a tendency to reduce aggression.
