What are some similarities and differences between the DSM-5 and the ICD-10?

What will be an ideal response?

Both the DSM and ICD are used for classification and diagnostics. Both of these manuals are
atheoretical, propose a multifactorial approach, and allow for behavioral and organic factors in
diagnosis. Generally, a diagnosis must include all social, cultural, and organic factors. Both manuals allow
for multiple diagnoses. Categories of sexual disorders and dysfunctions are similar in both manuals,
although the DSM tends to be more detailed. The DSM-5 includes an entire chapter dedicated to sexual
disorders and dysfunctions, including conditions. The DSM requires ruling out medical and situational
conditions prior to diagnosis. The ICD-10 is focused on the definition of sexual function as the
individual’s ability to participate in sexual relationships according to his or her wishes. Consequently, the
ICD-10 has more diagnoses relating sex. In the DSM, there are more disorders, which are separated into
different categories depending on gender.
