Consider the Web site for your college department. Not all of the users who visit the site have the same reasons that you do. Identify different groups of users who might come to the site. Hint: there are at least six different groups.
What will be an ideal response?
One of the things that’s nice about taking on a Web site for a college department or a University is that it’s easy to identify different user groups who will have different goals that they will want to accomplish with the web site. For example, for a college web site, the following user groups are pretty universal across colleges:
Prospective students Parents of prospective students Faculty Staff involved with advising Administration Currently enrolled students -- This can be subdivided quite a bit. Here is one possibility:
Undergraduate Matriculating freshmen Matriculating transfers At least one term (quarter or semester) of enrollment,
but not senior status yet Seniors looking to graduate
Graduate Enrolling for first time At least one term of enrollment
In last term before graduation
