Why is turnover such a problem for correctional agencies and what type of activities are being implemented to reduce turnover?

What will be an ideal response?

Answers should contain the following discussion points:
Turnover of staff is a problem for all correctional agencies as it is difficult to recruit staff to work in a sometimes dangerous environment. One of the major drivers of correctional turnover is non-competitive compensation. Other factors hurting retention are demanding work hours, stress and burnout, and employees not understanding and finding they were not suited for the job. To reduce turnover, many correctional agencies are identifying and addressing the most serious issues to retention. One is raising pay. Another way correctional agencies are improving recruitment and retention is positively changing the culture of their organizations by assessing and enhancing the workplace. An example is improving the skills of their first-line supervisors which can have a major impact on turnover.
