In light of Boykin, Rule 11 of the Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure and similar state provisions bars courts from accepting a plea of guilty in felony proceedings unless the court is satisfied, after inquiry, that:1.   the plea is made knowingly, intelligently, and voluntarily;2.   the defendant committed the crime charged; and3.   the defendant is mentally competent to enter the plea and thereby waives important constitutional rights.
