What role did slavery play in social and economic development of the South?

What will be an ideal response?

Answer:
Slave labor bestowed prosperity on their masters, British merchants, and the monarchy. The products of slave labor made the southern colonies by far the richest in North America. The per capita wealth of free wealth in the South was four times greater than that in New England and three times in the middle colonies. The differences in wealth among white southerners engendered ency and tension between the rich and poor, but little open hostility. It also dominated politics; only adult white men who owned at least 100 acres of unimproved land or 25 acres of land with a house could vote. The men who prospered usually were white and Anglican.
