The Alpine-Himalayan belt consists of the Alps though Europe and the Himalaya through Asia. The
Alpine orogeny began during the Mesozoic as the African and Arabian plates moved northward
against Eurasia. Deformation created the Alps and other mountains in Europe. India collided with Asia
to create the uplift that formed the Himalaya mountains.
