Once a trial has begun, there is a certain order in which the trial proceeds. Develop a mock mini dialog involving the prosecutor and the defense attorney from the opening statements to the closing statements. Be sure to use correct terminology
What will be an ideal response?
Although the actual dialog will vary, the procedural protocol should follow what is outlined in the textbook. The prosecutor should give an opening statement that summarizes the evidence that will be presented as proof beyond reasonable doubt. Second the defense attorney should provide their opening statement that summarizes their evidence that will provide reasonable doubt or an alternative scenario not involving the defendant. Then the prosecutor should call their witness and complete a direct exam with open ended questions; followed by cross-examination with close-ended questions. After the defenses has rested, the prosecution is permitted to introduce evidence to rebut the material presented by the defense, and the defense is given a similar opportunity called a rejoinder. The example should conclude with the prosecutor's closing statement, followed by the defense's closing statement and end the trial portion with the prosecutor's additional closing arguments.
