The router that initiates the PPP session sends its username and password to the router it is
establishing a connection with. The username is the remote router's hostname, and the pass
word is the same on both ends (usernames and passwords are both case sensitive). The commu
nicating router checks the username and password against its local database. If there is a match,
a connection is established. If there is no match, the connection fails.
