Making explicit reference to at least two of Piaget's stages of cognitive development, discuss how Piaget's theory has shaped pre-K and K-12 education as it is generally practiced in the United States and/or Canada.

What will be an ideal response?

According to Piaget, children develop cognitively in stages. Piaget's ideas have informed education around the appropriate point in development that certain skills should be taught. For instance, during his preoperational stage, children gain the ability to use symbols meaningfully. So, from ages two through seven, it is important to capitalize on this by exposing children to learning associated with symbols, such as reading. During the concrete operational stage, children are able to use logical thinking and begin to understand quantity. They would thus be open to learning mathematics during this stage, so building that curriculum into this age group is important.
