Describe and explain the advantages and disadvantages of using a within-subjects design.

What will be an ideal response?

The advantages of within-subjects designs (relative to between-subjects designs) is that there is less error due to a lack of between-group differences across different groups of participants and fewer participants are needed in the study to collect the same amount of data. The disadvantages are that there may be order effects from the order of the conditions the participants receive (which can be controlled with counterbalancing) and that the participants' procedure will be longer in the study, which could result in loss of subjects across the procedure and/or fatigue effects.
