Technology is frequently considered to be an “independent agent of social change.” Do you agree? Explain why or why not. Critique this claim.
What will be an ideal response?
(Agree) Technology itself drives our modern lives. It is the innovation itself that
remarkably transforms the world, for example the atomic bomb. (Disagree) It is not the
technology itself that independently changes social life, but rather it is a relationship
between the material and the ideal. A dialogic conception of technology reminds us that
technology is not a mechanical imperative, unless we allow it to become one because it
is a social creation.
