What is coercive diplomacy? How successful has coercive diplomacy been for the United States? What obstacles does the United States face in the use of coercive diplomacy?

What will be an ideal response?

Answers should describe coercive diplomacy as threatening to use force in order to achieve a policy outcome. Answers should explain that, with the exception of its success in resolving the Cuban missile crisis, coercive diplomacy has generally not worked well for the United States. Domestic political challenges, lack of international law, and defiant leaders from other countries are all examples of obstacles to U.S. coercive diplomacy.
