What will be an ideal response?
hey noted the issue surrounding counseling those who attempt or consider suicide. Certainly, identifying the best practices and founding interventions on evidence-based research is important in addressing this concern and problem. Means-restriction counseling involves working a client’s social support system and identifying ways to restrict access to lethal methods of committing suicide. The authors stated in describing evidence-based research “A large number of studies support the effectiveness of means restriction as a suicide prevention strategy when targeting methods that are highly lethal and common within a population” (p. 340). Additionally, the researchers noted that research supports the use of means-restriction efforts by family members of those considering suicide results in increasing the use of these methods.
