Produced in the intestine from bilirubin and gives feces a brown color. Some will be reabsorbed into blood and excreted back into the intestine by the liver or excreted by the kidneys into the urine. Complete absence indicates renal disease, hepatitis A, cirrhosis, biliary disease, or an obstruction of bile flow in the liver.
