Discuss Cohen's kappa. How is it used by test developers or researchers? Give an example.
What will be an ideal response?
• Cohen’s kappa provides a nonparametric index for scorer agreement when the scores are nominal or ordinal data.
• It is used to determine whether two raters are consistent in their scoring of items such as essay questions graded pass/fail or rating scales on personality inventories when it is not appropriate to use correlation to estimate agreement between the raters.
• Kappa evaluates the degree to which the raters agree with each other after the proportion of agreement that might be expected to occur simply by chance is taken into account.
