What is the definition of democracy? How does direct democracy differ from representative democracy?

What will be an ideal response

Democracy is derived from the Greek words kratos (power) and demos (common people) and literally means "power to the people." Direct democracy allows every eligible member to meet, express opinions and to publicly vote. This form is best suited to tribes and small towns. Representative democracy involves the election of candidates who then represent the interests of those who elected them.
