Given what you have read about institutional theory, comment on the quote from William Inge, former Dean of St. Paul's, London: "Every institution not only carries with it the seeds of its own dissolution, but prepares the way for its most hated rival."
What will be an ideal response?
This quote poses a paradox for evaluation. The assertion is that institutions contain their own demise and support the success of their rival. A sophisticated answer suggests a mind that has thought about the text issues in interesting ways. One could assert that institutions exist to fulfill a need (the need suggested by new institutional theory). And when that need is filled, there is no need for the institution to continue to exist, which does leave the field wide open for the rival. So, for example, perhaps free trade agreements are set to substitute for the WTO.
