• Develop business skills
• Remain realistic, patient and persistent as I build up clientele
• Network and build up an outside clinical and ethical support system
• Become technologically savvy in developing a website, using e-mail, iPhones, and other technology to keep up with clients, get referrals, and market oneself
• Overcome or avoid restrictive covenants or noncompetitive agreements that some agencies put in their contracts with counselors
• Invest time and hard work in pull marketing relationships
• Find a way to make sure emergency situations and the unexpected crisis are covered when out of town or out of the office
• Donate services and participate in endeavors for the public good to build up a reputation and practice
