• Today scholars reject using the idea of "delayed evolution" to explain Native-American cultures as "simple." (This is an outdated ethnocentric concept.) In spite of the fact that their music and/or language is not written down in symbolic notation, what appear to be simpler cultures turn out to be very complicated.
• Thus scholars today reject this notion.
