Describe how the USDA Food Guide and MyPyramid can be used to help choose nutritious foods.

What will be an ideal response?

Responses will vary; eating wisely usually does not mean drastic changes but rather fine-tuning your current diet. Two tools that are available to help you with this fine-tuning are the USDA Food Guide and MyPyramid. The USDA Food Guide can help a diet planner design an adequate and balanced diet. The Food Guide defines the major food groups, their subgroups, and suggests portions of foods from each group. The most nutrient-dense foods from each group are recommended as a means to control calories and prevent obesity or overweight. MyPyramid is another tool created by the USDA and it illustrates the concepts of the Dietary Guidelines and the USDA Food Guide. By visiting MyPyramid.gov, people are able to create an individualized diet plan. This unique plan is important because your body responds to food according to your genetic inheritance and current needs.
