It should be noted that software companies have specialized in services for schools, teachers, students, and parents. Often, a school, district or county hires a software company to meet the needs of their locale providing electronic services to teachers, parents, and students and enhancing communication. As recently as five to ten years ago, parents had to wait for written progress reports to learn how their children were doing in school. Now, those data may be readily available on their smartphones. Paper grade books are a thing of the past for most teachers in most schools and districts across the country. Opinion is mixed on whether the web-based record keeping is more or less work for the classroom teacher.
