What is the overall rationale for setting specific goals with clients?

What will be an ideal response?

Goal setting brings relief to the client and sometimes to the helper, too – by helping them consider positive outcomes, and focusing their energies. Goal setting can instill hope and provide direction for future sessions. Clear goals focus the helping process on the client’s needs and assist helpers to recognize whether or not they are qualified to provide services. Goals also demonstrate the effectiveness of the helping process to clients and outside parties, and aid in the termination process.
