How could behaviorism explain Jeremy’s violent behavior toward Latisha? What motivates behavior according to behaviorists? According to evolutionary psychologists? How does behavioral motivation compare in these two theories?
What will be an ideal response?
Behaviorists could explain Jeremy’s violent behavior toward Latisha through the use of reinforcement. His aggressive behavior allows Jeremy to release tension. It may also give him a sense of power. Both of these emotional experiences may be rewarding for him and therefore encourage future displays of a similar nature.
According to behaviorists external factors motivate behavior, i.e., rewards and punishments. Evolutionary psychologists, on the other hand see our behavior as being motivated by the need to pass on our genes, and therefore internally motivated. The two theories have very different views of behavioral motivation.
