Fick’s law is the empirical statement or equation that relates the rate of
diffusion, molar flow, or mass flow of a substance from one location to another
in a mixture. The equation states that the rate of diffusion is equal to the
negative concentration gradient (or density gradient) of that substance times
the area across which the flow occurs times the substances density at that
position times the mass diffusivity.
