What is the sequence of analytic activities a researcher should use when completing qualitative content analysis?

What will be an ideal response?

1. Data are collected and made into text or otherwise organized to be "read." Data can include field notes, transcripts, image sequences, etc.
2. Codes are analytically developed and/or inductively identified in the data and affixed to sets of notes or transcript pages.
3. Codes are transformed into categorical labels or themes.
4. Materials are sorted by these categories, identifying similar phrases, patterns, relationships, and commonalties or disparities.
5. Sorted materials are examined to isolate meaningful patterns and processes.
6. Identified patterns are considered in light of previous research and theories, and a small set of generalizations is established.
